Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Too much stress in a person’s life can cause physical and mental illnesses and make chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer worse. If you’re feeling that the pace of your life is out of control, or you are just not feeling “quite right” or are suffering from various chronic conditions, this program can help.

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program seeks to restore balance in people’s lives through greater awareness and intentional living. Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life. It is also a way of taking charge of your life and a way to work with stress, pain or illness to promote healing.

Two decades of research indicates that the majority of people who complete the program report:

  • Lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
  • An increased ability to relax
  • Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • Improved self-esteem
  • An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.

Our program is based on the Stress Reduction Program founded in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. It is offered several times a year for a fee. Each program consists of eight weekly 2.5 hour sessions and one all-day weekend session.
