Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is very broad in scope because its purpose is to help people improve their ability to function in all aspects of life, including work, daily living skills, vision, and even recreational activities. Occupational Therapists also address fine motor skills and may explore splinting options to help people use their hands more effectively. Occupational Therapists look at sensory processing issues
— which can be an issue for children and adults who have neurological damage.
Occupational Therapists provide many life-improving services for our clients, including:
- Cognitive functioning and memory assessments (tests below a certain level may indicate a person is no longer safe living alone);
- Vision assessments and home modification recommendations to compensate for low vision;
- Home safety assessments, fall prevention, and home adaptations to improve safety and ease;
- Training clients who have lost some function how to more easily perform daily tasks in their home, like cooking, bathing and recreational activities;
- Making recommendations for simple equipment that can help daily activities;
- Making splint or orthotic recommendations and doing fittings;
- Teaching strengthening and coordination exercises.
