Safety and Security Measures
At St. Mary’s Birthplace, we understand that a parent’s natural instinct is to protect their child. While cases of infant endangerment are very rare — and have never have occurred at St. Mary’s — we have several layers of security measures in place to protect your newborn. The hospital as a whole and our caring staff take every precaution to provide a safe and secure environment for both mother and baby during their stay:
- We use one of the latest advances in infant security — the HUGS Infant Protection System.
- At birth, all newborns and mothers receive identification bracelets containing the mother’s surname so that baby and mother are matched appropriately
- All Birthplace staff’s identification cards are color-coded to quickly identify whether or not they are authorized Birthplace personnel.
- Our video camera surveillance system is monitored continuously by security staff and staff at the Birthplace nursing station.
- All Birthplace staff perform quarterly safety and security drills to test staff’s knowledge of our systems and procedures should an emergency occur.
Our technologically advanced security system, monitoring procedures, and alert staff work with one purpose in mind — to ensure the safety of your newborn.
