Parents can be assured their newborns are in good hands. Our 25-bed NICU has two board-certified, attending-level Neonatologists on staff full time, and four skilled Neonatal Nurse Practitioners who attend 24/7 to the unique needs of premature and sick infants. We also keep up to date on the latest developments in neonatal technology and equipment, including several kinds of ventilators, high-tech beds and infant-sized IV pumps.
Innovative care practices
We combine cutting-edge technologies and treatments for our very special patients with sensitive approaches like the Developmental Care model, which can make such a difference in helping infants thrive. This approach to care mimics the womb by maintaining low levels of sound and light, co-bedding twins and triplets when they are ready, and providing support for the baby’s position. Education for parents
Another important part of our job is teaching parents about the special needs of their infants, including how to advocate and care for them. We work intensively with families to allow them to bond so when they go home they can be a success. We also offer a neonatal loss program.
Support from our whole health system
Our babies also benefit from having access to a full spectrum of medical specialists, as well as the resources of the greater SMDC Health System. Read MORE about the specialist support available in the NICU...
