Level II Trauma Center

St. Mary's Medical Center is a Level II Trauma Center. Not only is this rare in our region, it's rare across the nation. Only the best receive this designation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

What does this mean for you or your loved ones? It means that if you ever need our services, you're guaranteed to find the staff and services that the ACS says are critical to saving lives:

  • 24/7 availability of a trauma staff that includes trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, orthopaedic specialists, neurosurgeons and anesthesiologists
  • State-of-the-art trauma nursing units
  • Trauma-specific education for the nursing staff
  • Comprehensive care provided by a team that's highly experienced in trauma cases, including not only physicians and nurses but also staff in emergency, critical care, surgery, radiology, laboratory, respiratory therapy, spiritual/pastoral care and rehabilitation
  • Specialized care for the young and aging
  • Rapid medical air transport via helicopter
  • Consultation services to rural areas throughout the Northland through a 24-hour referral line
  • Deep back-up support by clinical specialists from many areas, including neurosurgery, internal medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, pediatrics, ophthalmology and many others

Only those trauma centers found to be in compliance with these strict standards are good enough to be called Level II. It's one more way you can be sure that St. Mary's Medical Center is providing the best care possible to you and your loved ones.
