If you ever suffer a traumatic injury — an injury that threatens your life — only two things can save you: expert care and quick response times. Trauma Services at St. Mary's Medical Center delivers both, which makes us the best trauma unit in the Northland.
Expert care. St. Mary's has trauma surgeons available 24/7. Receiving care from a trauma surgeon increases your chance of survival 30 to 50 percent. These are the surgeons you want when you come through the ER doors. They're board-certified, with two extra years of training in Trauma Surgery. And they're backed by doctors in other departments who specialize in trauma care.
Quick response times. Speed of response can mean the difference between life and death. We make sure that the time it takes from the ER to surgery is incredibly short — often less than an hour. Patients are met in the ER by a team of doctors, nurses and specialists. This team is pre-assigned and prepared to respond to any trauma injury. It's all a part of our commitment to have care waiting on the patient, not the patient waiting on care. With helicopter transport, trauma patients in outlying areas can also get to the hospital quickly.
